Dave Perkes, the English guy who runs the Peace of Angkor Guesthouse (my current home in Siem Reap)
organises a Christmas Day party every year for guests, ex-pats, his staff and assorted locals. There’s plenty of free food and drink and music is supplied by by a band of local Cambodians, all of whom have been disabled or blinded by landmines.
There was also karaoke later on plus a selection of music from Dave’s very, er, eclectic collection of 70’s & 80’s rock.
It was a good night with lots of drink taken and rubbish talked in English, French, Cambodian and a mixture of all 3. I didn’t even know I could speak Cambodian but after several bottles of freely poured Angkor Beer it’s no problem.
